Who we are

A coalition that refuses to look the other way

The Guardrails Alliance is made up of workers, organizers, policy experts, and everyday people who believe the most powerful technology ever built shouldn't be controlled by a handful of unaccountable billionaires. Our democracy shouldn't be for sale to the highest bidder.

We are not anti-technology. We believe AI can be transformative, beneficial, and genuinely good for people. But that future requires rules, accountability, and a government that actually represents the public — not just its donors.

We bring together a big tent: union members worried about their jobs, parents worried about their kids, AI safety researchers, and progressives who've been fighting corporate power and civil rights for decades. That breadth is our strength.

The question isn't whether AI will change the world. It's whether the people affected by that change will have any say in how.

Our mission

Put guardrails on AI before it's too late to matter

01
Follow the money. Publish the donor networks. Name the politicians and the PACs buying their way to deregulation.
02
Support candidates at every level who will pass meaningful AI safety rules and resist the pressure of tech money.
03
Build the grassroots coalition of workers, parents, and advocates, whose voices carry further than any billionaire's checkbook.

Why it matters

Concern about AI without guardrails is broad, cross-partisan, and growing

AI must be accountable.

69% of voters believe AI development should not be left to a small group of tech companies. Nearly two-thirds say government has done "too little" — including 77% of Democrats, 72% of independents, and 53% of Republicans.

Democracy isn't for sale.

Americans ARE paying attention — nearly 8 in 10 say they've heard at least a moderate amount about AI, and what they see concerns them.

Workers come first.

Gen Z's excitement toward AI has dropped 14% over the past year while anger has risen. With a worsening job market, resentment is deepening among young people as they enter the workforce.

Children must be protected.

8 in 10 parents want more guardrails on AI for their children. 71% of parents and 60% of kids believe young people will be so dependent on AI they won't be able to function without it.

Communities have rights.

49% of Americans oppose new data centers in their area. 75% of rural residents are worried about AI's impact on the political process. 68% are concerned about local water and utilities.

The road forward must benefit everyone.

Last year local opposition blocked or delayed at least 48 data center projects valued at $156 billion. A record 20 were canceled in Q1 2026. Communities are fighting back — and winning.
